Research

This week, I spent the time researching the moves and history of Muay Thai as part of my new goals after I got the injury. I kind of feel bad for not going to class but I'm sure I will next week. Even after I got off crutches, it still hurt walk fast or do movements requiring my feet/ankles.  So here's what I got from researching the history of Muay Thai : Muay Thai was created in the Sukhothai Kingdom in the 13th century. Sukhothai Kingdom was what eventually evolved into Thailand. It eventually fell into decline when the capital was invaded by the Kingdom of Ayutthaya in 1349.  Soldiers were taught hand- to hand combat and how to use weapons which eventually evolved into Muay Thai (มวยไทย) and Krabi Krabong (กระบี่กระบอง). 3-8-23 I sprained my foot on my second class! In the class, we started with warm up and reviewed moves such as roundhouse kicks and switch kicks. I was practicing a switch kick when for some reason, I fell in a bad position. I would have thought I just rolled my ankle badly but it hurt for more than 15 minutes.  There's actually an emergency care right next to the kickboxing building so my mom and I went there. The doctor confirmed that it was a sprain and it's supposed to take 1-2 weeks to heal.  In terms of planning, I'm not really sure if I should keep this as my project. I had a plan B for if I couldn't get lessons which was crochet. My goal was to make a doll from a crochet Star Wars kit which was quite challenging. I will ask Liv, who is also doing crochet how to crochet. I find this kind of embarrassing because it was literally my second day :/ I'm planning to go back to doing it once my foot is healed, even if it's not for the project. Here's a pictu...

I decided to learn Muay Thai because I wanted to learn self- defense. The idea of Muay Thai interests me because it seems to be very efficient as it incorporates the use of “eight limbs” (meaning fists, elbows, shins and knees). Also, it originates from Thailand and I’m Thai.  I’ve never had time to try new things because my schedule was already filled up doing other extracurriculars such as water polo and piano. I was actually planning to do spring polo this spring but I missed the sign up. I had realized it when my friend texted me that there weren't any more spots left and I thought, "Oh, that's fine. At least I'm in already.” Obviously, it turns out I wasn’t. But not doing that clears room in my schedule and now I have the opportunity to learn Muay Thai!   Apparently, my brother was interested too so I entered the adult class with him. There were 5 other people there. The class started with warm up which was jump roping for 10 minutes and random exercises in ...
