I sprained my foot on the first week!! (not clickbait)

3-8-23
I sprained my foot on my second class! In the class, we started with warm up and reviewed moves such as roundhouse kicks and switch kicks. I was practicing a switch kick when for some reason, I fell in a bad position. I would have thought I just rolled my ankle badly but it hurt for more than 15 minutes.

There's actually an emergency care right next to the kickboxing building so my mom and I went there. The doctor confirmed that it was a sprain and it's supposed to take 1-2 weeks to heal.

In terms of planning, I'm not really sure if I should keep this as my project. I had a plan B for if I couldn't get lessons which was crochet. My goal was to make a doll from a crochet Star Wars kit which was quite challenging. I will ask Liv, who is also doing crochet how to crochet.

I find this kind of embarrassing because it was literally my second day :/

I'm planning to go back to doing it once my foot is healed, even if it's not for the project.

Here's a picture that I took. I used my gloves to keep my foot elevated, as following RICE.
This is what I learned from Mayo Clinic. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/sprains/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20377943

Rest- Avoid physical activities that will strain or further injure the sprained area
Ice- Press an ice pack against the injured area for 20 minutes at a time, every 2-3 hours
Compression- Wrap the injury with a bandage to reduce swelling.
Elevation- Raise the injured limb above heart level so gravity reduces swelling.

My foot feels pretty good and I can put weight on it. I can probably walk a little but I wouldn't do anything too hard like jumping and running. I think I can stay with this project and I don't have to switch to the crochet project. For now, I'll do upper- body exercises and just do research on Muay Thai.

Good news! I think I can get off crutches tomorrow! Pat taught me how to dodge and block (while I sat on a chair) at home. There are a lot of things I'm expected to know such as putting my weight on my toes and to not tense up. I felt like a total idiot but I'll learn. I'm a swimmer, I don't know how these things work! Still, I'm having fun learning some new things from Pat. I'm excited to continue!

Lesson learned: During setbacks, always have a plan B but also don't immediately abandon plan A. Do what you can do and call that an achievement. Stay positive.

  1. Hey Alisa! I think Muay Thai is fascinating and I am looking forward in learning more about it. Now, I feel SOOOOO betrayed that you click baited me because you OBVIOUSLY do not have a sprained ankle or crutches or any evidence. But actually, I am wishing for a speedy recovery and am glad that it is a really minor injury. Can't wait to see your progress...especially with your crutch skills you injury faker :)))
